Man arrested in armored car robbery

The Associated Press - March 15, 2009

OROSEBUD, Texas — Authorities captured a 53-year-old man Sunday afternoon who is wanted in a $1.9 million armored car robbery in Dallas.

The FBI said Donald Ray Williams was arrested without incident at a residence in Rosebud, about 35 miles south of Waco. Williams was being held Sunday night at the McLennan County Jail in Waco.

The FBI had posted wanted information about Williams on digital billboards last month and received tips that led them to San Antonio. News of the San Antonio focus led to additional tips over the weekend that Williams might be in Rosebud.

Williams is suspected of being one of two men who robbed the armored car while it was being unloaded at a Dallas bank on Sept. 5, 2007. Freddy Lee Foots, 53, was convicted and sentenced to nearly 30 years in prison for his role in the robbery.

Foots was arrested attempting to flee to Mexico through El Paso after leading authorities on a 140-mph chase in a Mercedes AMG that was later discovered filled with cash.

A $45,000 reward had been offered for information leading to Williams' arrest.

Both Williams and Foots previously served prison sentences for committing a similar armored car robbery in Dallas. The April 1988 heist netted $1.1 million.
